Dalhousie was established in 1854.It was named after Lord Dalhousie, Viceroy of India that time. Dalhousie remained part of Punjab until 1966. It has a rare combination of three ecosystems-Lake, Pasture and Forest. It is also called mini Switzerland of Himachal Pradesh Dalhousie. It is situated at the height of 1970 meter from sea level. Victorian and Scottish architecture is prevalent in the buildings and churches in the town. Dalhousie is a gateway to ancient Chamba hill station. The hilltop location and abundance of greenery making it a cool oasis of pines, valleys and quiet lanes. Dalhousie also acts as a gateway for wider regional explorations, with a number of Hindu Temples, shrines and historic sites to explore, hidden among the hills.
It has 84 ancient temples from 7th to 10th century AD. There are four Churches in Dalhousie. St. John Church (built in 1903 A.D), St. Patrick’s Church (builts inn1909 A.D), ST. Andrew’s Church and St. Francis’s Church.There is 150 years old Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Dalhousie. Chamba has two river flowing through i.e Ravi and Chenab.Now a days it is a very popular place for honeymooners and family coming from planes.
